Leonard Wood

HARBOURTON — Leonard Wood, 95, died Tuesday, March 27, at the Rolling Hills Nursing Home in Lebanon.
Born in England, Mr. Wood had lived in Hamilton Township for many years and in Harbourton since the early 1970s.
He was a member of Old Rocks Community Church in West Amwell Township. He was a volunteer for Hunterdon County Meals on Wheels for more than 20 years and a volunteer for Hunterdon County’s Mr. Fix-it Program.
Mr. Wood worked part time as caretaker for the Hibernia Apartments complex in Lambertville.
Mr. Wood retired in 1974 as a district supervisor with the New Jersey Department of Transportation in Trenton.
Son of the late Jacob and Mary Jane Wood, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Leonard and Carol Wood of Belle Mead; two daughters, Fay C. Wood of Yardville and Patricia Wood Guenther of Lawrenceville; five grandchildren, Scott Wood, Suzanne Cutino, Adam Guenther, Kathryn Guenther and James Guenther; two great-grandchildren, Sean and Chelsea Cutino; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday at the Garefino Funeral Home, Lambertville. Burial followed in Rosemont Cemetery.

George Savidge

WASHINGTON, Vt. — George S. Savidge of Washington, Vt., died Tuesday, March 27, at South Jersey Hospital of Vineland, N.J., He was 95.
Born in Mt. Rose, he attended Pennington School for Boys and graduated from Trenton State College in 1935 with a degree in physical education.
He worked all his adult life as a farm superintendent — in the 1930s at Ken Clare Farm in the Pennington area; 1940s at Wilgorlan Farm in the Titusville area and the late 1940s to 1976 at Pleasant Run Farm in the Lambertville area.
He was the son of the late Edgar Terhune and Cora Styer Savidge and brother of the late Edgar Savidge, Wayne Savidge and Evan Savidge.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy B. Savidge; a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and James Jefferis of Monroeville, N.J.; four sons and daughters-in-law, David and Mary of South Washington, Vt.; Peter and Brenda of Princeton, Paul of Falmouth Foreside, Maine, and Mark of Chelsea, Vt.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Upon his retirement in 1976, he and his wife retired to Vermont where he remained active in his community and church.
Graveside services were held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Highland Cemetery, Hopewell. A remembering service will be held in Chelsea, Vt., at a time to be announced.

Joseph Magistro

LIVINGSTON — Joseph S. Magistro, 65, died Saturday, March 31, at the Valley View Nursing Home in Frenchtown.
Born in Newark, Mr. Magistro grew up in the West Orange and Livingston areas.
He attended Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Newark.
He graduated from Caldwell High School and attended Fairleigh Dickinson College.
He was the son of the late Salvatore P. Magistro and brother of his late twin sister, Ann Louise Magistro.
Surviving are his mother, Louise Magistro of Lambertville; his nieces, Dawn Stepien and Barbara Meehan; a nephew, Tony McCarthy; great nephews, Christopher and Nicholas Stephen; and his cousins, Ellen Croce and Joanne Martino.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Lambertville. Burial followed in Holy Cross Cemetery in Arlington, N.J.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Garefino Funeral Home, Lambertville.

Louis Simonye

WEST AMWELL — Louis Simonye, 87, died Thursday, March 29, at Hunterdon Medical Center.
Born in New York City, Mr. Simonye lived in West Amwell Township since 1928.
He was a member of Old Rocks Community Church and served on its Cemetery Committee.
He was a member of the Lambertville Elks Lodge, the Toscanni American Legion Post 120, the Amwell Lodge F & AM # 12 and the Lambertville Kiwanis Club.
He was a former mayor of West Amwell and served on the Township Committee.
He was a charter member of the West Amwell Volunteer Fire Company.
For many years, he owned and operated Simonye Construction Company.
He was the son of the late Frank and Julianne Simonye and brother of the late Frank Simonye. He was predeceased by a longtime companion, Patricia Hoffman.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Carl and Sue Simonye of West Amwell and Curtis Simonye of Toledo, Ohio; one daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Stephan Locke of Richmond, Ky.; his ex wife, Doris Nelson of Richmond; his grandchildren, Megan Federer, Kyle and Aaron B. Simonye and Graham Locke; and his great-grandson, Griffin Simonye.
Funeral services were held at the church. Burial was private.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Garefino Funeral Home, 179 Lambertville.
Masonic services were conducted.

Diana Trent

EAST WINDSOR — Diana L. Trent, 37, of East Windsor died at home Friday, March 30, after a long illness.
Born in Manhattan, she was raised in Jersey City and had been a resident of East Windsor for the past 12 years.
She was a 1987 graduate of St. Dominic’s Academy in Jersey City. She received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 1992 and was senior class president.
She went on to receive her master’s degree in engineering management from the institute in 1998.
She was a founding sister of the Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority.
She began her working career at Fluor Daniel in Marlton as a mechanical engineer for five years. Subsequently, she worked for Merck and Company in Rahway for 10 years, most recently as a project manager.
Surviving are her husband of 12 years, David E. Trent; a son, Ryan D. Trent; her father and stepmother, Glenn L. and Suzanne VanDerWende of Solebury; her mother, Susan J. Pignata of Cranbury; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Gerard and Jennifer Pignata of Marlboro and Nicholas VanDerWende of Solebury; a sister, Dawn VanDerWende of Solebury; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond D. and Virginia J. Trent of Dayton.
A funeral service was held Monday at the A.S. Cole Funeral Home, Cranbury, N.J.

Kenneth Totten

EAST AMWELL — R. Kenneth Totten, 78, of East Amwell Township died Sunday, April 1, at the home where he was born and resided all his life.
He was the son of the late Fred H. and Madge Wilson Totten.
Mr. Totten was a lifelong farmer.
He was a member of the New Jersey Board of Agriculture, the Hunterdon County Board of Agriculture, the Amwell Valley Fire Company in Ringoes and the United First Presbyterian Church of Amwell, Larison’s Corner.
Mr. Totten received several awards from various organizations for his service to agriculture.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, E. June Kinney Totten; three daughters, Linda Kopunek, Judith Grignon and Janet Totten, all of Ringoes; a son, Albert Totten of Clinton, Ill.; six grandchildren, Laurie Martin, Aileen Grignon, Katie Carman, Jarrett Totten, Kyle Totten and Ryan Totten; two great-grandchildren, Brooke Martin and Olivia Totten; and a sister, Katherine Bellis of Colorado Springs, Colo.
Funeral services will be held today (April 5) at 11 a.m. in the church under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, Flemington. Burial will follow in Amwell Ridge Cemetery, Larison’s Corner.
