Had a mentorship session yesterday at adplist.org with Gaurav Atavale, and I cannot stress enough how helpful it is to have a senior guiding you in your career development. I usually think about all possible experiences in terms of knowledge, so there are three categories:1. What you know.2. What you don't know.3. What you don't even know you don't know.The third type of experiences are only unveiled through time. A mentor is like a fast track to discovering those "unknown unknowns."Have you ever noticed all the times you realize this same thing after learning something new and tell yourself, "I wish I knew this earlier..." or "If I had known this, I wouldn't have done XYZ"? Well, you need a mentor.Mentors can see where you're headed before you even know, and they'll help you make slight turns to avoid future obstacles.Failing is okay, but actively avoiding failure is even better.
